Police in Gauteng arrested three males who are suspected to be responsible for car hijackings in Pretoria

The trio were arrested on Tuesday, 14 January 2025, at Pretoria Central after they were found in possession of a firearm and a VW Golf GTI that was reported to be hijacked in Hillbrow, recently.

Information was received about the suspects who are involved in a number of car hijackings in Pretoria and the surrounding areas.

A team of law enforcement agencies, consisting of SAPS Highway Patrol Unit, Tracker Connect, Cap Specialised Operations, and ICB Insurance Crime Bureau, collaborated and went on a search for the suspects.

A suspicious vehicle, with three occupants, was spotted in Pretoria Central. The team stopped the vehicle and searched all occupants. A firearm and large amount of ammunition was found in their possession.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle driven by the suspects was reported to be hijacked in Hillbrow and fitted with false registration plates.

The trio are believed to be working for a security company based in Pretoria. Further investigation is underway.

The suspects are expected to appear before Pretoria Magistrate's Court in due course facing charges of possession of hijacked vehicle.
