These graduates were late and were not allowed in the graduation ceremony at the University of Johannesburg

Post by News »

In summary : This is the University of Johannesburg.

These graduates and their families/friends were late and were not allowed entry.

The registrar was on radio 947 yesterday and she went to great lengths to explain how they overcommunicated the importance of being on time, how they moved the ceremony from 9am to 9:30am for student convenience, how they do expect latecomers and have an overflow venue for them to be apart of the ceremony, they just will not walk across the stage.

There are also processes once in the auditorium - gowns, pics, place cards, they go so far as to calculate the time it would take to walk even with an older person, so they run a very tight ship. They also have more than 1 ceremony a day, so timekeeping is essential.

This is not a political issue, this is an ill disciplined issue of people who are disgruntled and feel entitled to disrupt the ceremony of everyone else who was on time.
