I hired an X5M and they held a R120 000 deposit on my card. :joy: :joy: :joy: . That was wild.

But It's their business model. They have their target market and I'm sure they're not running out of clients as a result of their business model, actually they are thriving in their market..

Since she tweeted about it, I might as well use this to share the info.
Never rent direct from the dealer. Go via a travel agency like www.travelstart.co.za and the deposit is far less and they give you double mileage. EuropeCars charged me R17k deposit for a budget car but through an Agency it was R5k

When you see a Celebrity tweet about a popular brand, while complaining about their bad service delivery. And at the same time mentioning another brand, as a recommendation just know it’s a promotion.

Celebrities are captured, they are as good as puppets! They don’t just wake up and post!

I always take their cars, and they need to hold so much. Even a C Class won't be that much, but I guess I'm wrong.

Check Rentalcars.com you’ll get a variety of options. We used Budget in Dec and it was about R3k for 7 days

Here's the crazy part, I'm willing to bet you that the monthly installment plus insurance for that vehicle is less than R32 000!! That's just greed and madness!!

Stop being dramatic. They normally hold R8k for entry level Citi Golf(Cheapie cars).
Probably, you as Anele the celeb, might be renting a Porsche/Jaquar/BMW...so R32k should be the going rate for weekend.

Avis have booked me a day extra but i returned the car during the grace period. The Manager at Cape town Airport branch was rude when i told her about their own terms and condition. She said i must dispute it via customer care which i have been waiting for their response since

You know   I think it’s a new thing now :monocle: :monocle:

I was stunned on Wednesday when I picked up a car with FIRST and they insisted on holding R12k for literally two days (one night) car hire…Kante there are those that are demanding R32k :zipper:

It’s standard mostly - still really lousy though! Europacar releases the hold really quickly. I used Drivalia in the UK and they held R35k for 32 days :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

I remember the marketing team at Avis working with you? I think they even sent shirts which you shared here.

Did you guys have a fall out from a promotional POV that you couldn’t call them to support with a deposit discount and save them the bad PR?

When you return the car they will take their own time to pay back that holding deposit... while they are telling you that they are checking the dents and chips

Avis is a joke, they wanted 40k holding deposit for a Polo GTI and 2k per day to rent the car at King Shaka Airport :joy: :joy: :joy:

I wanted Land Rover Defender and same amount. I just don't understand this whole deposit thing while you paid for the car.

Why they don't bill everything when you drop the car.

And that credit card requirement? Most of us we don't do credit cards. Really its rubbish.

Yes. They need security to repair possible damages  .
If there is no damage, they'll give you back your money.
If you trust your driving, you have nothing to worry about.
