Fuel Theft Syndicate Bust by Reaction Unit in Ethekwini - KZN

Two Mozambicans, a Zimbabwean & a South African National have been arrested by Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) in Ethekwini - Kwazulu Natal Wednesday afternoon ( 24/04/2024).

A Reaction Officer travelling on Old Main Road between Tongaat & Verulam in KZN noticed suspicious activities between four (4) males.

The Officer kept observation and noticed fuel being transported in a white Isuzu Bakkie.

The Officer called for back-up when he realised that the men belonged to a syndicate that were stealing fuel & were sought after for several months.

Reaction Officers boxed in the bakkie and recovered the fuel.

When interviewed the men informed RUSA Members that they would approach staff at construction sites & trucking/transport companies and steal diesel.

The stolen fuel would then be sold for R300 per 25 liter containers.

Reaction Officers arrested 32 suspects within a week for committing serious offences. Several stolen vehicles & unlicensed firearms were also recovered.

All suspects were handed over to the South African Police Services (SAPS).
